Checklist for Track Meet
1. Uniform—black shorts, Glenwood top—All relay runners have identical uniform. Underarmor (or similar) must be a team color to be legal to wear. So, for us it must be black or gold. If not, the starter may disqualify any runner or relay team not in compliance.
2. 1st runner has baton
3. 2nd, 3rd, 4th runners have markers for take-offs—When you finish your leg of the race walk back in your lane and pick up the marker, they are marked GMS—Listen to the people running the meet, they will tell you where exchange zones are
4. Relay take off guide
100m = 5-8 steps
200m = 4-6 steps
300m = 3-5 steps
the faster the person giving you the baton the more steps you will need
YOU WILL WORK ON HANDOFFS BEFORE YOUR RACE!
5. All starters of any races 400m or less will use blocks. Block measurement: the block closest to the line should be 1 ½ to 2 of your feet back, the block farthest from the line should be 2-2 ½ feet from the line
6. Know the schedule of events—NEVER MISS A CALL
If you are called for a race during a field event, inform the field event judge that you must go run, then check in at the running event, run, then return to the field event.
Also, if you are on a second relay team, you report at the same time and use the same exchanged zones as the first relay team. Sometimes our first team and second team will be in the same heat—make sure you know where you are supposed to be and be there. If you have questions, ask the person at the exchange zone or the check in person.--NEVER MISS A CALL!
THROWERS AT HARLAN
You must throw at the highschool then be transported to the track (which is not at the highschool). At this meet they will not have your name on a list, you have to give it to them and where you are from. If you are scheduled to be in an early running event like the 4X800, you need to tell the event judge that you need to throw early in the order. Then the bus driver will have to bring you to the track.
7. Be responsible for your stuff and the stuff of your teammates. Everyone should have someone to run their sweats to them following a race.
8. Be supportive of everyone on the track, OUR TEAM and others—be around the entire track.
9. Warm up, Warm up, Warm up—Do several sprints before running any race—AT FULL SPEED—We promise you will run better during your race if you do this.
10. HAVE FUN, COMPETE HARD!
Life’s battles don’t always go to the faster or the stronger man. But sooner or later, the man who wins is the man who thinks HE CAN. –Vince Lombardi |
