What was the role of men and women in the caste system?

There were different roles for men and women in the caste system. Grandparents, parents, and children all live together in an extended family. The eldest man was in charge. The men had more rights than the women. Only men had the right of going to school or becoming a priest. When the men were cremated the women where told to leap in to the fire after her husband.
