Why was there a Caste System? No one is sure but ideas about skin color was probably a reason. The Aryans were light skinned people. Reasons why Aryans might have created a Caste System was because the people they encountered in India outnumbered. The Caste System set rules for everyone's behavior . This helped the Aryans stay in control.

DEFINITIONS

Caste System-a social structure in which classes are determined by heredity, this cannot be changed.

Raja-a king or prince in India.

Heredity-the sum of characteristics and associated potentialities transmitted genetically to an individual organism.

Brahmans-Priests Rich people with money
Kshateries-Warriors,Rulers fight,rule
Vaisyes-Common people normal,nothing special,BORING
Sudras-Unskilled Laborers,Servants do labor,serve
Pariahs-Untouchables Do work to dirty for others



Normal = not unnormal
BORING = Yawn
Rulers = people who rule
Rich = Money = Good

3).What was the role of men and women in the Caste System?CB


In ancient India men and women had different roles such as the oldest man in the family was in charge. Men got more rights than women, unless there were no sons in the family,only a man could inherit property. Also no girl could go to school or become priest. In high caste family the sons had their own guru or a teacher until he went to the city for more education. Also men could only marry once they've gone through twelve years of education.


Inherit- To receive ones property.

Guru-A teacher who helps out young men in a high caste family.

Raja- A king or Prince in India.

Priest- A person who is aloud to preform religious rights.
