Writing Linear Equations (section 2-4)
What you will learn: -Write and equation of a line given the slope and a point on the line. -Write and equation of a line parallel or perpendicular to a given line. Vocabulary: 1.Slope-intercept form- The equation of a line in the form y=mx+b, where m is the slope and b is the y-intercept. 2.Point slope form- An equation in the form y-y1=m(x-x1), where x1 and y1 are the coordinates of a point on the line and m is the slope. *The most important thing you need you need to know about this section is the slope- intercept form. y=mx+b (mx is the slope and b is the y-intercept.) You need to know this to solve problems throughout chapter 2 FORMS OF EQUATIONS: 1. Slope Formula 2. Symmetric Property of Equality or Slope-intercept form. |
