Shield volcanoes are the world's fastest flowing volcano, because the magma they erupt has a low viscosity, the willingness to stay still. Low viscosity also means it has low silica content. Silica slows down the lava flow speed more if it has high content.A Famous shield volcano is Mauna Loa, located in Hawaii, which has been erupting for over 30 years without stopping.This is one of the longest eruptions in history, and has killed over 2000 people and destroyed over 2500 houses.
