Ring of Fire

The Ring of Fire is the linear zone and volcanic activity that coincides in general with the margins of the Pacific Plate. The world used to be one plate. Alfred Wegner suggested that this is called the Continental Drift. The Ring of Fire has many trenches, volcanic arcs and many volcanic belts. It has 452 volcanoes. It is home of over 75% of the worlds active volcanoes. It is also called the Circum-Pacific Belt. The ring of fire is located in the Pacific Ocean. The Ring of Fire is a result of tectonic plates scraping against each other. It is a 40,000 km. horseshoe shape.
