A long time ago Greeks and Romans believed that volcanoes were controlled by gods. A volcano is a crack in the earth, where magma spews through the very top. The lava comes from in the mantle. When Magma builds up it becomes a bigger volcano. There are two volcanoes that are very common. The shield and the Strata. The shield has very runny and fast magma. The Strata has slow and thick magma. About 90% of the volcanoes are in the Ring of fire. The Ring of fire is located in the edge of the Pacific Ocean. If a volcano erupts in a big city there may be a high percentage of deaths. It can also destroy famous buildings and landmarks. But Volcanoes can be good. They can make more land like in Hawaii. Also it can bring many minerals. There are different parts of a volcanoes. There is a magma chamber, a secondary cone, the main cone and the Main Vent.
