Volcanoes occur all over the world. Ancient Greeks believed that the gods control the volcanoes. Volcanoes make lots of destruction because of all of the lava spilling out of the middle. About 1900 volcanoes are active today or known to be from historical times. Almost 90% are in the ring of fire/ a ring of volcanoes around the Pacific Ocean. If a volcano erupts suddenly in a populated area there could be a lot of damage and it could even kill people. It could destroy buildings and industries. There are about 1,900 volcanoes in the world. Volcanoes provide minerals, soil and geothermal energy. Lava flow can build new land and that is how Hawaii.
