The ring of fire










About 1,900 are or have been active. Almost 90% of those 1,900 are located along the pacific plate. This is probably because along the seam of the plate, there are several minuscule imperfections, that let’s lava seep through small gaps. The other 10% of the Volcanoes reside around the edges of the other, lesser known plates. This results in a ring of volcanoes, known as the ring of fire. But this is not the only place were plate movement occurs. Japan gets many earthquakes because it is bordering a plate.
