Spanish Settlers came to Texas because they wanted to find Cibola, the city of gold. Cabeza de Vaca, Hernando Cortez, and Francisco Corondo were all Spanish Explorers. The Native Americans wanted to Christianize the Spanish Settlers. In return they made them slaves. With the help of the Roman Catholic Church they built missions. They often included houses, a church, and farm buildings. The Spaniards brought horses and Europen cattle with them. They introduced onions, grapes, and wheat to the Native Americans. They grew and prepared potatoes, corn, beans and tomatoes. I hope you will take some time to learn more about the Spanish Settlers!!!!! |
