imperialism: the policy of extending the rule or authority of an empire or nation over foreign countries, or of acquiring and holding colonies and dependencies.

protectorate:the relation of a strong state toward a weaker state or territory that it protects and partly controls.

yellow journalism:Journalism that exploits, distorts, or exaggerates the news to create sensations and attract readers.

jingoism: the spirit, policy, or practice of jingoes; bellicose chauvinism.

sphere of influence:any area in which one nation wields dominant power over another or others.

Open Door Policy: is a concept in foreign affairs stating that, in principle, all nations should have equal commercial and industrial trade rights in China.

dollar diplomacy:is the term used to describe the efforts of the United States — particularly under President William Howard Taft — to further its foreign policy aims in Latin America and East Asia through use of its economic power by guaranteeing loans made to foreign countries.
