“Solar” is the Latin word for “sun”. You can use solar energy in two ways: as a heat source and as energy. You can use solar collectors for heating water and air in the homes. You can use solar energy to make electricity, this process is called photovoltaic. More than 10,000 American families get all their electricity from solar power.
Solar power systems need different wiring than regular electricity and that can be very expensive. There are only a few big solar power plants in the US- mostly in California. The panels cost a lot and lots of space is needed to put them up.
