Hydropower is a very helpful energy source. It is the most often used in the areas that have the dams and produce the energy. It is one of the oldest energy sources. In early times it used to be small mill that lifted water out of lakes and marches. One downside to hydropower is that it prevents salmon from swimming up the river to reproduce. The more they get killed tiring to get up stream, the lower the population. They now are putting fish ladders into the dams so that they can somehow get to the other side. It works by water coming into the dam, which spins turbine producing energy. The energy is then transferred over to peoples homes so they can do their everyday needs. Hydropower is pretty much free, does not pollute and also helps flood control.
