Osgood-Schlatter
By Abby Weinberger

Osgood-Schlatter is a disease that causes pain in the knees. The disease Osgood-Schlatter is a way to describe the pain caused when the patellar tendon pulls tightly on the attachment to the shin bone. This most commonly happens to boys 10- 15 years old. Usually to boys/girls that are playing sports often. The doctor could suggest you to get an x-ray to make sure it isn’t anything else. The only help you can get is to rest and put ice on the affected area. Pain relievers are also very affective for short-term relief. Osgood-Shlatter was named after the two doctors, Robert Bayley Osgood, a U.S orthopedist, and Carl Schlatter, a Swiss surgeon. They are the ones who first described it in 1903.
