Mad Cow Disease is an illness also known as Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy. It is called Mad Cow Disease because if affects the cow’s nervous system, causing the cow to act strangely and makes it loose control of it’s abilities to do things such as walk. This infection causes the brain to waste away and become spongy. Researchers are not completely sure but they believe that it comes from certain kinds of fool given to the cows to eat. Mad Cow Disease is a concern because it can be transmitted to people if they eat meat that came from the cow with Mad Cow disease. If a person eats infected beef, the person is at a higher risk of getting a human form of the disease, called creutefeidt Jakob or C.J.D. It is a very serious disease that affects the brain, but it is vary rare in the USA. It is not contagious, likewise a cow that has Mad Cow Disease can’t affect another cow.
