Step 1: The Presidential Candidates Announce
The candidates make an official announcement that they're running for president then file papers with the federal elections commission.
Step 2: Primaries and Caucuses
The Democrats and the Republicans choose 1 main candidate to represent them.
Step 3: National Conventions
The delegates gather to choose their party's candidates.
Step 4: Campaigning
The candidates give speeches, fundraisers and debates to try to get the people's votes.
Step 5: The General Election
The people of the U.S.A. cast their votes for the person they think will do the best job.
Step 6: Electoral College
After a month the members of the electoral college meet to cast the official vote for president.
Step 7: The Inauguration
The new president takes the oath of office and starts serving his or his term.

Definitions of Important Terms
Term 1: Caucuses
Definition 1: A gathering of people who talk about the issues and the candidates at a central place and then cast their vote for candidates.
Term 2 : Electoral College
Definition 2: Members who gather to cast their votes for the candidates.
Term 1: Delegates
Definition 1: The people picked to represent the voters at the national conventions.
