How We Elect A President

OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT:A presidential candidate first makes an official announcement that he or she is running for president.
THE PRIMARY PROCESS:In the U.S. candidates usually belong to 2 political parties: Democrats and Republicans . The 2 main parties each select 1 candidate to represent them in the national election.
THE NATIONAL CONVENTIONS:The purpose of the convention is to select the nominee that will represent the party in the presidential election.
CHOOSING A RUNNING MATE:Around the end of the convention candidates announce their running mate. A running mate is a person who helps the president. Also a running mate can be a vice president.
THE BIG CAMPAIGN:The candidates face each other in the national debates. They travel all around the country giving speeches.
ELECTION DAY:Election day is the first Tuesday in November. Voters know how to vote for is who they believe in and who they believe will do the best job.
THE ELECTORAL COLLEGE:In January all of the members of the electoral college meet and officially elect the new president. The members are a group of people who gather their votes for the various presidential candidates.
THE INAUGURATION:The new president of the United States takes the oath of office and officially begins serving a term.

ELECTORS:American citizen 18 years old and older are aloud to vote.
DEMOCRAT:A member of the democratic party.
REPUBLICANS PARTY:One of the two main political parties in the united states.
