Step 1: A presidential candidate first makes a announcement that he or she is running for president .
Step 2: People dream of becoming president of the United States of America they all think they know how the government should work.
Step 3: At the end of primaries and caucuses each party holds a convention during this time each presidential candidate chooses a running mate.
Step 4: Candidates try to get some votes from the voters then in November they vote for one candidate.
Step 5: Each state gets a number of electors. Each one gets a vote Rhode island gets 4 and California gets 54.
