Geometry Vocabulary
1. Transversal – A line that crosses two or more lines.
2. Angle – the amount of space between two lines meeting at the same point.
3. Parallel – lines that are the same distance apart and aren’t crossing.
4. Perpendicular – lines that cross at right angles to each other.
5. Adjacent angle – angles that are immediately next to each other.
6. Alternate exterior angle – 2 parallel lines intersected by a transversal on the outside of the parallel lines.
7. Alternate interior angle – 2 parallel lines intersected by a transversal in between the parallel lines.
8. Vertical angle – 2 angles that are opposite each other.
9. acute angle – An angle that is less than 90°
10. right angle – An angle that is exactly 90°
11. obtuse angle – An angle that is more than 90°


Key:
1. Parallel lines: Line Segments AB & CD.
2. transversal line: Line Segment EF
3. Adjacent angle (8): 1 & 2, 2 & 3, 3 & 4, 4 & 1, 5 & 6, 6 & 7, 7 & 8, 8 & 5.
4. Alternate exterior angle: 1 & 7, 3 & 5.
5. Alternate interior angle: 2 & 6, 4 & 8.
6. Vertical angles: 1 & 3, 2 & 4, 5 & 7, 6 & 8.
7. Acute angles: 2,4,6,8.
8. Obtuse angles: 1,3,5,7.
9. Right angles: None.
