The book is called Wringer. The author of this book is Jerry Spinelli. This is a realistic fiction book.

The main character is Palmer LaRue. He does not want to become a wringer. When a boy becomes 10 you almost have to be a wringer. Beans is the leader of the group. The people in the group are: Mutto, Henry, and Beans. Beans has colored teeth and is the nastiest of the group. Mutto fights with Beans a lot. Henry is part of the group but is like its prey. They live in a country like place.

Palmer has his ninth birthday and the group finally comes. Then he gets the treatment from Farquar. Then a pigeon lands on Palmer’s window. He feeds the pigeon and it keeps coming back so he lets him in. The pigeon was his alarm clock by nipping on Palmer’s ear so he names him Nipper. He hides it from the guys but he shows it to his friend Dorothy. He has to get rid of Nipper because the guys are getting suspicious and Dorothy does it for him on her vacation. But I’m not giving the end away.

The author is trying to say you can do what want to do. I learned that some friends don’t really like you.

I think this is a very good book. I loved it!!! The story is not confusing and it is easy to believe. The story is not predictable. It was very believable.

I would recommend this book to the ages of 7-15 because some kids think they can always depend on their friends.
