2nd lightest noble gas
4th most abundant element in the universe, but only 0.0018% of the Earth's atmosphere is Neon
Has a full valance, therefore, does not react with other elements often
Neon gas is not toxic, but can cause suffocation by denying the flow of oxygen, especially if confined in a small area.

also for lightning arrestors

in the Earth's atmosphere
in the rocks on Earth's crust

discovered:
Sir William Ramsay and Morris William Travers in 1898 shortly after their discovery of the element Krypton by the study of liquified air

Gets its name from the Greek word "neos", meaning new.
