Important People:

William Penn

“Speak properly, and in as few words as you can, but always plainly; for the end of speech is not ostentation, but to be understood.” This quote was said by William Penn and what he is trying to convey is that you should be as simple as you can and to the point because what matters most is understanding the words, rather than being fancy. Who is William Penn? King Charles II sold William Penn Pennsylvania because he was in debt to Penn’s father. Penn wanted to name the piece of land Sylvania which meant “woods,” but King Charles II advised Penn to name the land Pennsylvania. In 1682, Penn wrote a document called the Frame of Government of Pennsylvania. Penn named his colony’s Chief City Philadelphia. Philadelphia became the largest city in the colonies. Soon Penn became the owner of Delaware. He was also the first hero of American Liberty. Penn was imprisoned in the Tower of London where he wrote his most famous work: “No Cross, No Crown.” Penn gained the position as a very important person in U.S. history about the Middle Atlantic Colonies.

Benjamin Franklin:

In my opinion Benjamin Franklin is the most famous person in the Middle colonies. He achieved many goals in his life as an inventor, writer, scientist. He invented the lightning rod.The lightning rod prevented lightning to burn houses. This rod was a thin bar of metal. He also wrote an almanac,an almanac is a book that is published every year. It told farmers when to harvest and plant.

Way of Life/Economy:

The people in the Middle Atlantic Colonies lived in log huts.Their chimneys were made with mud and sticks. The homes mostly had one room and no windows. They got light all the time.Morning to afternoon they used sunlight. Afternoon to sunrise they used fire as light. They made their own supplies.Living in the frontier was dangerous because wildlife was always nearby and Indians sometimes attacked them.Their were marketing towns that helped with trade and selling goods. The farmers grew so much rye, corn, and wheat that they were known as the bread basket colonies. The land was fertilized. The climate was sunny and good for growing crops. The people that didn't farm or fish still had jobs.the middle colonies had many factories that produced iron, paper, and textile.they were most industrial colonies out of all the thirteen colonies.

Conflicts:

One of the main problems in the Middle Atlantic Colonies was religion. As you probably know that the Middle Colonies was filled with Dutch, Germany, English, and Irish. Many people forced others to change to there religion.another problem was attacks. Many Native Americans came to attack them.Animals also caused danger by attacking. The Middle Atlantic Colonies people had to protect themselves to stay out of harm.
