Harriet Beecher Stowe wrote a book called Uncle Tom’s Cabin. Her book changed the way people viewed slavery.1. Harriet Beecher Stowe was born on June 14,1811 in Litchfield, Connecticut.She was the 7th child of 9.Roxanna and Lyman Beecher were her loving parents. In 1816 Roxanna died of tuberculosis when Harriet was only 5 years old. Then Lyman remarried to Harriet Porter. 2.At age 13,1824,Harriet’s family moved to Hartford, Connecticut. Harriet took a job and started to teach in a classroom at age 16.3. Harriet caught sight of slaves working and how they were mistreated.4.She married to Calvin Stowe on January 6,1836.5.She wrote stories, articles, and geography textbook.6.In 1850 Calvin took a job as teaching at Bowdoin College. They had to move to Brunswick, Maine.7.In 1851 she wrote a story called Uncle Tom’s Cabin. It is about an old slave named Tom, and his mean slave owner, Simon Legree. The book wasn’t published until 1852.Tom was asked to tell where to runaways were hiding. But he refused and he was beaten to death. Tom’s last words were “I forgive ye, with all my heart.” It made people see how slavery is wrong and how many people were being mistreated.8.In 1863 Calvin retired and they moved back to Hartford, Connecticut. Calvin soon died three years later. But Harriet was never seen outside of her house again.9.She then died on July 1,1896 at age 85.She was said to have shaped the destiny of the American people.
