He was a great Civil War leader and later became president. 1 His family moved to Ruler Ohio where his father had a leather shop. Grant was a quiet boy who had an interest in horses. Later his father asked Grant if he wanted to join a military academy so Grant went with the plan. 2. At the academy Grant found out the military accidentally enlisted him as Ulysses S. Grant not, Hiram Ulysses Grant his real name. So he was stuck with Ulysses. 3. After Grant graduated he was stationed at St Louis MO were he was engaged to Julia Boggs Dent. Later Grant served in the Mexican war as a lieutenant. After the war Grant turned to a businessman until the Civil War in 1861. 4. Grant became a general by capturing 2 confederate forts. As he fought in many battles, the battle of Vicksburg made him the leader of the union army and led the union to victory. 5. Grant later became the president of the USA. After office Grant went back to business, but he soon developed throat cancer. Before his death Grant made an autobiography ‘’The Personal Memories of Ulysses S Grant’’. He died at Mt. McGregor N.Y. But we will always remember Grants leadership.
