In the 1910-1920's trade schools were common. The trade schools were for young men (boys). Those trade schools were to teach young men how to learn a trade and other "necessary" life skills. In that time most people believed it not proper for women or young ladies to do trades. World War I was a big influence on these trade schools. While full grown men went to fight in the war, someone, the young men, would have to take over the businesses to keep them going. This picture shows a trade school in Virginia where all of the young men are standing to help get better at hard work.
