During the first World War a lot of time was spent trying to get new soilders to join the fight. War was a way to learn a trade. "There's the world before you young man! Do you want to see it? Learn a trade and live a strong healthy life? If so enlist and be happy - you can't beat this." It was also a way to gain things you maybe didn't have at home. "You get food, clothing, living quarters, medical atention, dental atention, baseball, football, and movie theaters all for free!" The war was an opportunity for young men. It was a way to learn a trade and get food and clothing.
