All About ME: Hello, I am the Spleen. I am part of the immune system. Also I protect you from blood diseases and cleanse it as well. It is possible to live without me but I recommend to be kept. Some of my primary parts are the splenic vein, the splenic artery and the colic and renal areas. I am located on your left hand side, between your stomach and diaphragm. Before birth I make all of your blood but when you are born your bones would work together to create blood.
Health: As your spleen stated above, it is possible to live without a spleen. If your spleen doesn’t get removed though, you can get serious health issues. One has to do with your immune system. This is Autoimmune. This is when your spleen kills good blood cells. Basically, your immune system tries to kill itself. Another health issue is known as Niemann Pick Disease. This is when your spleen is oversized. Your spleen will continue to grow and grow but you will eventually die, usually around nine years old. You will be diagnose usually when your two. These are rare but serious diseases.
