When I was 14 years old, I went for the first time to the United States, specifically to Minneapolis, Minnesota. The reason of that trip was the USA CUP, an international soccer tournament. I went with my Jr. High School’s team, so that means I went with many friends.
We left Mexico City on June 11 and we arrived to Atlanta, Georgia. In Atlanta we lost the flight to Minneapolis because we arrived late, so we had to wait the next flight that was the next day. The airline paid all the things for example: hotel and foods.
The next day we flew to Minneapolis and when we arrived there were many American families waiting for us because we were going to remain with them. We had divided in couples and each couple was staying with a family, but our family decided to keep two couples, so Rodrigo and I were staying with Gianni and Dali with the McCarthy family.
Before the tournament we went to a lake and we went shopping to the biggest mall in the USA “The Mall of America”.
The tournament began with an opening ceremony, and then we played our first match versus a Brazilian team, unfortunately we lost it 2-0.
The second match tied with an American team, and the third match we won it to another American team with a score of 2-1. With that we passed to eighth finals versus an American team and we won it with a score of 1-0, then we played the quarter finals versus the best Brazilian team, the match was so hard-fought but near the end one of our defenders made an own goal and then they made another, so we lost our aspirations with a score of 2-0.
We went to the closing party where we knew and dance with many girls from Canada, USA, and Brazil.
Although we didn’t win the tournament this is the best experience I’ve had because I flew to another country with many friends to make the thing I love to make: SOCCER.
