Dewey the Library Cat by Vicki Myron is the true story of a kitten’s life in a library. On one of the coldest nights in Spencer, Iowa, the staff at the Spencer Library finds a kitten in their drop-off box. They find that the kitten has frostbite on its paws. The kitten survives the night, and creates a bond with the staff, mostly Vicki. Vicki was like the kitten’s mother. The library held a contest to name it. The winner was “Dewey.” Dewey’s full name was Dewey Readmore Books. The town loved Dewey and came to the library more. Dewey later became famous and appeared in two movies. In the end, Vicki finds out Dewey has cancer, and needs to be put down.

10. Vicki got another cat after Dewey and named it Page Turner.
