Chasing Lincoln’s Killer is a book about John Wilkes Booth killing President Lincoln, escaping, and journeying to Virginia. It has very interesting facts I never knew before.

1. Booth was a very strong Confederate believer.

2. During the Civil War, Booth planned to kidnap Lincoln with some conspirators.

3. When Booth planned to kill Lincoln, he had other people try to kill the Secretary of State and the Vice President.

4. Lewis Powell was to kill the Secretary of State. He was accompanied by David Herold. When Herold heard screams, he fled and later met up with Booth. Lewis Powell was unsuccessful, but left a permanent scar on Seward’s (Secretary of State) face from his knife.

5. George Atzerodt was to kill the Vice President, Andrew Johnson, while staying at a hotel in Washington, D.C. Atzerodt was drinking in the hotel. As he drank more, he thought it would be more and more impossible to kill Johnson. Atzerodt had also failed.

6. Booth was a famous actor and considered quite handsome.

7. When Booth jumped from the President’s Box in Ford’s Theater, he sprained his ankle.

8. The groups had LOTS of help getting to Virginia, the capital of the fallen Confederate side. There, Booth thought they would be safe.

9. While paddling a boat to Virginia, Booth and Herold went the wrong way.

10. Booth was shot by Sergt. Boston Corbett and died on farmer Garret’s front porch where he had stayed for two nights.
