Reflection:
On the day the professor gave us the task to perform church involvement, first thought that came to my mind was that it was nothing. I thought that it was easy, a piece of cake challenge. On the first day though it proved me wrong. Things like arranging the altar aren\'t supposed to be taken for granted. Each item has its own place in the altar and must be squeaky clean for the use of the priest that will be giving the mass. We had to be very extra careful in helping clean the church items like the chalices and ciboriums, the amount of wine to be poured, the number of host to be estimated, the color of the cloth to be put on the altar are also scheduled. We also helped in cleaning the pews which are, by the way, not as easy as it looks. You have to be considerate about the people that will hear mass. What makes it more challenging is that since Sunday mass is only once a week, the dirt piles up so we really had to make sure the pews are cleaned properly. We also got to sweep off the dirt outside the church which we were complimented by the people who saw us outside. It was fun and a very enlighting experience over all. It helped in making us realize that the church is something we have to take care seriously because it really is our most sacred home and the foundation of where we belong. |
