My Parish Experience was not really an \"eye-opener\" that I thought that it was going to be. But even though this was the case I still don\'t or can\'t say that the entire Parish Involvement was a total waste of time. I still was able to pick up a few things that can help me understand my faith better that I had understood it once before. I always thought before that when you say you work in the parish office you have an easy job and little effort is required. This idea or notion of mine was changed after doing some tasks for the parish office. All the responsibility of arranging events that will happen in the church falls to them, though this seems to be quite obvious when you think about it, it really never occurred to me that it would be that hard. An example of this is the chatter that I would hear while I was working there; I would often see a line of people waiting outside the office arranging with the church baptisms of their sons or daughters, arranging to get their house blessed by the priest, wedding arrangements, etc.
My Parish Experience encountered minimal resistance, or in other words I didn\'t really encounter hardships during my parish experience. This was mostly due to the fact that maybe the parish office has planned what they wanted me to do. They also instructed me to call before going there so as for them to prepare the task that they assigned me to do. Another reason as to why I didn\'t encounter that much hardships was because the tasks that I did were very simple. They asked me to just help in a children\'s mass, do some powerpoints that will be used during the masses, and lastly join and help in a pilgrimage/outreach that was organized by the parish priest.
From my experience (most especially the Pilgrimage/Outreach) I can say that my parish shows or exemplifies what it means to be a church. This activity (the Pilgrimage/Outreach) was something that showed me that my parish concerns itself with the spiritual development of its parishioners. During this activity we visited four churches in Bulacan as well as doing an outreach to help those people who were less fortunate that us, so from this we can see that the parish involves itself to help people \"grow\". I can say that it was hard for me to find something negative while I was staying there to do my parish involvement. One things maybe that I can say is a negative aspect about my parish is that it doesn\'t really \"entice\" it\'s parishioners to be more active. An example of which is the fact that this this pilgrimage/outreach was not really announced to the people who attend to this parish. In other words the parish at times relies on how active its members are and doesn\'t really try and make its members active. Though nothing is perfect in this world it was simply hard to find a negative aspect about the church.
As a student something that I can do to help improve my parish is to get more people involved with the projects and activities that the church holds and organizes. This way I can help the church as well as well as help those who will benefit from the programs and activities that the church organizes. One other way is to also help in those said programs and activities because what is the point of trying to get people to join those programs and activities if I myself will not even bother to join what our parish wishes us to do. An example of this is with the activities like these (the Pilgrimage/Outreach) which we had, I should try often to join more and as well as try to get more people to join in the endeavors of the parish. Another and more simpler way that I maybe able to help my parish is just to simply help out in the tasks that need to be done in the parish. This parish involvement should me that; simply helping with the simple tasks that the church requires (like cleaning the church grounds, helping arrange papers, helping in the mass, etc.) will really help out the parish as this will clear out some minor tasks that burden them from doing what they are really supposed to do. Lastly donating things that the church can use, like money, clothes, and food whether or not for themselves or for those who they help will also assist with the goal of the church.
