Why worry about all the endangered animals, they’re not affecting us, right? WRONG! Since humans began populating the earth, animals have always been hunted. Animals have been hunted for food, for clothes, FOR FUN, and for medicine! People need to look for all the beauty and nature of the wild, not for the sport. You do not need to always hunt animals for medicine, there are plenty other substitutes for “animal medicines.” We need to stop hunting for all the unnecessary reasons, poaching, and doing it for fun all together, to save the endangered animals!

People hunt and kill animals for reasons that are ridiculous. For example, people kill animals for fun and for money! The buffalo population started to fall in the 1880’s. European hunters decided to move in and kill the buffalo, mostly for its skin, which was valuable for rugs and clothing. In the 1800’s there was about sixty million buffalo on the Great Plains. By the 1900’s there was about 250,000 buffalo left. Some people in the Mediterranean islands kill migrating birds for fun twice a year, that’s something we need to stop!

Most illegal hunting, (poaching) is for medicine. Other poaching is for souvenirs. However the most deliberate cause for poaching now is for trade. If a Chinese poacher kills a tiger on the Burmese border, he can get a years pay for doing it. But think about it; if everyone did that, all the species of the tigers would be wiped out before you know it! Then if everyone did it for medicine (which there are many other alternatives besides animals) they would still be wiped out very quickly.

Another main problem contributing to the endangered species, is loss of their habitats. For example, the rain forests are being cut down for farmland and lumber. People use chainsaws and heavy machinery to cut down all the trees before they even finish growing. Therefore, no seeds are left for new trees to grow. Also, if you build roads or other construction projects, the debris can wash into the sea. That debris can lead to a decrease in sunlight, thus killing coral reefs. We need to be more careful of where we build roads so we do not destroy habitats.

We need to stop hunting and poaching all together, for at least a century or more for everything to regenerate. If we do that, then wild life would be beautiful. We could find other alternatives for everything . We could still raise cattle for food, but not hunt all the endangered species. Everyone around the world need to work together to help keep the endangered animals safe so that they will not disappear.
