Q1: Why did some enslaved African Americans try to escape from their owners? Why was this such a dangerous act?
A1: They did it because they didn\'t get paid when they worked and they hated it. When they tried to escape if a white man saw them they would send them back. Later they would get beaten.
Q2: How did most slaves travel when they escaped? How did they find there way?
A2: They traveled in the night because it wasn\'t as easy for white man to catch them. They looked for the North star and went that way.
Q3: What were some of the worst dangers and challenges that runaway slaves faced?
A3: They didn\'t have a lot of food or drinks and their clothes were raggy.
Q4: How did the runaways try to avoid getting caught? What happened if they were caught?
A4: They went during the night and hid during the day. If they got caught they would get returned then get beaten.
Q5: What was the Underground railroad? Who were the passengers and conductors?
A5: The Underground railroad was a route for slaves to reach freedom. The passengers were, the slaves and the conductors were the people who helped the slaves reach freedom such as, Harriot Tubman.
Q6: Why did the Underground railroad have to be so secretive? What were some ways that people on the Underground Railroad kept their work - and runaway slaves - hidden?
A6: The Underground railroad had to be so secretive so the slave catchers couldn\'t catch the slaves. They hid the slaves in the attic and in the cellar.
