Roger Williams believed that the business of the church and state should be separate. He sent out to find his friends the Narraganset tribe. If he didn\'t go, he would get set back to England and get hanged, or go to prison. People came to take Roger Williams to England, but he was not in the house. An Indian found him sleeping in a hollow tree. He trusted Williams and lead him to their village. Roger lived with the Indians for the winter. They trusted him and gave him a beautiful piece of land. His family joined him, when they found out that he got a new place to live and they could be free. Roger Williams\'s daughter gave the first settlement a name, Providence for God\'s providence. |
