John Mason

In 1629, John Mason and another explorer divided the land between themseleves. John Mason received the land between the Merrimack and the Piscataqua rivers. He named his part of the land New Hampshire because of his hometown Hampshire,England. John Mason sent expeditions to New Hampshire in the time period of 1630-1631. The colonists settled in a place called Strawberry Bank which is present day Portsmouth. However, John Mason was a huge help with colonists he provided cattle and other supplies but he never actually visited any part of New Hampshire.

The New Hampshire Colony

New Hampshire was very interesting colony. It had many american tribes such as the Pennacook and the Abenaki. New Hampshire was named in 1629 by John Mason. New Hampshire was the first colony to declare independance from Britain. It was the first colony to write its constitution. A few of the important industries are lumber, fishing, shipbuilding and growing potatoes. New Hampshire was a very intresting colony.
