Here is a timeline of South Carolina:
June 24 1521- The first Spanish expedition reaches the Carolina coast.
1524- The first French Ship is sighted near the Carolina coast.
1540- Hernando DeSoto might have reached South Carolina.
1565- St. Augustine was founded.
1566- Spain builds coastal forts.
1585- The first attempted British settlement was on Roanoke Island founded by Sir Walter Raleigh. It was destroyed by the Native Americans.
1629- The Plymouth Colony was founded.
1669- Carolina Colonists sail from England on three ships.
1670- Charles Town is founded as the capital city of Carolina.
1672- Charles Town now has 30 houses.
1700- A hurricane strikes the city.
1712- The territory of Carolina is divided into the North and the South.
1713- Another hurricane strikes the city.
1715- Yemassee Indian War lasts for two years.
1718- The Pirate Blackbeard sails into Charles Town harbor with four ships.
1728- The Hurricane of 1728.
1742- Charles Town\'s population is estimated to be 6,800.
1752- There is another hurricane and it kills around one hundred people.
1770- There is development in the Harleston Village neighborhood.
