Vulcan was the Roman God of fire and also volcanoes. Vulcan was given basically all of Hephaestus’s attributes. He is a very old god. His forge was known to be underneath the mountain Aetna in Sicily. He was also the god of metalworking. He is sometimes called Hephaestus because of his similar qualities to Hephaestus (Greek God of Metalworking)
Two symbols he represents are men’s fertility and the blacksmith’s hammer. Vulcan was included in Rome’s most ancient platform of religion.
Vulcan’s rule in pop culture is endless. He has been in some video games like Diablo II. In the game he is called Hephasto and he is a demon. In the game he is powerful due to how much damage he can deliver to the player. He is placed in the River of Flame which has a connection to him being a god of fire.
Vulcan father was Jupiter and his mother was Juno. He was also married to Maia and Venus. His job was to make the thrones for other gods on Mt. Olympus. He was a ugly and small baby. He made the thunderbolts for his father Jupiter.
He was such a ugly baby that his mother was terrified and she threw him off of the top of Mt. Olympus. When he hit the water his leg broke and he sunk to the bottom of the ocean where Thetis found him and took him back to her lair. After the fall he couldn’t develop properly. One day he found what was left of a fisherman’s burned out fire. He still got a coal and took it back to the lair. He stared at the fire all day. He started putting certain stones into the fire to make it hotter and, he started to take the remains of the rock which was metal when it was burnt. He would start to mend the metal into certain things like bracelets, swords, and shields.
