The Furies were in both Greek and Roman mythology as female spirits of justice and vengeance. They would punish people who murdered their family members by driving them mad. They lived in the underworld when they were not punishing wrongdoers and tortured the damned. They were heinous creatures because they had blood dripping from their eyes and serpents in their hair.

The three sisters are Alecto (the angry), Megaera (the grudging), and Tisiphone (the avenger). Some stories say the sisters were born from Uranus\'s blood because Cronus wounded him. Others say the sisters were daughters of Nyx. The Furies are the sisters of Charon the Ferryman. They did not have any children of their own.

The symbols of the Furies are blood and snakes, because their eyes dripped with blood and they had snakes in their hair.

Their reference to pop culture is that they are in both God of War:Ascension and God of War: Ghost of Sparta. They are the main antagonists in God of War: Ascension. And in God of War: Ghost of Sparta they are the daughters of Thanatos.
