Venus is the Roman Goddess of Love and Beauty. Her Greek counterpart is Aphrodite. The doves, swan and the rose are three of her main symbols. There are many connections between Venus and today\'s culture. Her name is in the title of a beauty company called Venus International. Many other beauty products are also named after this Goddess including Venus Razors. Also, the second planet from the sun was named Venus after the Goddess of Love. Venus is the daughter of Dione and Jupiter (Zeus), god of the sky. She was married to Vulcan (Hephaestus), god of fire and the forge. Her father, Jupiter, gave her to Vulcan as thanks for making his lightning bolts. She is also the mother of Cupid, the god of love, by Mercury (Hermes). Some Greek myths state that she was raised from the sea on a seashell after Saturn (Cronus) threw the remains of his father, Uranus, into the ocean.
