Gold (Au) is the 79th element in the periodic table.Gold is found in the earth and sea and higher ground in mountain streams.Gold comes from outer space. Gold is made inside of giant stars that explode when SUPERNOVAS form. Scientists have determined that asteroids brought the gold to earth. Gold is a precious metal valued for its beauty in making jewelry. Gold is used in dentistry for fillings. It also makes fine wire for electronics. A block of gold weighs 400 troy ounces according to the U.S. Department of Treasury.

The Physical Properties of Gold are color, luster, ductility, malleability, conductivity, solubility, hardness, density, and melting point. Gold is a soft, dense, shiny, yellow metal that has the ability to be dissolved. It can also be bent. Gold melts when its temperature is 1065 degrees celsius.

The Chemical Properties of Gold are formula, activity, compounds, auric chloride and chloro-auric acid, reactivity with acids, isotopes, reactivity with non-metals, and alloys. Gold is an inactive element.

Some Interesting facts that I found out about gold while doing my research is that gold is the only metal that is yellow in color. It can be turned into a liquid and used to treat rheumatoid arthritis patients by injecting it into their muscles. The largest gold nugget was discovered in California and weighed 195 pounds.
