In 1823,German chemist Eilhard Mitscherlich discovered sulfurs allotropy he showed that the crystal shapes of sulfur obtained from cooling molten sulfur were different from those obtained when the element crystallized from a solution.

Sulfur is the 16th element on the periodic table its symbol is a capital \"S\" it also has a melting point and a boiling point it will also react with aluminum and iodine.Sulfur reacts with all elements except for gold,platinum,iridium,nitrogen,tellurium,iodine and the noble glass.

Sulfur has been known about since ancient times.Ancient cultures in India,China and Greece all knew about sulfur.It is even referred to in the Bible \"brimestone\".The name sulfur is either from the sanskirt SULVERE or the Latin word SULPHUR which the root means to burn.

Sulfur is a bright yellow in its solid elemental form and burns with a blue flame.Sulfur is most likely to be the color YELLOW but can be the color RED,GREEN,BROWN, and GRAY.Clay and selenium impruities,as well as volcanic mixtures in sulfur can cause it to be slightly RED,GREEN,BROWN, OR GRAY.

Sulfur is chemically similar to oxygen and is a highly reactive element that has the designated atomic number 16, which means it has 16 protons and 16 electrons. The number of neutrons can vary, creating different isotopes. The most common configuration contains 16 neutrons.
