NVA - Panzer Divisions

NVA Panzer Soldat

The organization of the 2 NVA panzer (armored) divisions each featured 3 tank regiments and 1 motorized rifle regiment. Each division had approximately 12,500 men, 300 tanks and 300 assorted armored personnel carriers. By the late 1980s, the T-72 formed the bulk of the main battle tank force of the East German 7th Panzer Division and 9th Panzer Division "Heinz Hoffman". At that point, the older T-55 was used primarily as the main battle tank of the panzer regiments of the Mot-Schutzen (motorized rifle) divisions.
