NVA Fallschirmjäger BDU

The Fallschirmjäger field uniform of the NVA was originally issued in "splotch" camouflage, however in the 60's and 70's a more modern and practical fighting outfit was developed in rain pattern comouflage. This uniform included a Polish-made steel para helmet, a beret(olive-brown), and jump boots. The jump helmet and boots went through modifications over time. The BDU unique to the airborne featured a rain pattern tunic with knit cuffs and neck, close-fitting pants at the ankle and the fighting vest (kampfweste).

A special winter 2 piece lightweight liner for this uniform was developed as well. Airborne troops typically sewed on their shoulderboards to the rain pattern tunic and specific examples of these sewn-on shoulderboards exist (these para shoulderboards did not have a button hole or fabric strap).
