On September 17th 2008, we will observe Constitution Day along with students and federal employees from all over the nation. Here are some Web sites that will help us all gain more knowledge about our great country and its government.

Ben's Guide K-2 gives standards related materials, information, games and links for Kindergarten through Second Graders, parents and teachers.

Ben's Guide 3-5 gives standards related materials, information, games and links for Third through Fifth Graders, parents and teachers.

PLEASE NOTE: The Ben's Guides link to materials for 6th through 12th graders and for parents and teachers.

Kidsreads is a Web site that reviews children's books. The book review for America a Patriotic Primer has great information about a wonderful book that is not just for little kids. The author is Lynne Cheney, wife of Vice President Dick Cheney. The illustrator is Robin Preiss Glasser.

C is for Constitution is a Page from the book America a Patriotic Primer. Notice that the Preamble to the Constitution is the border for the page.

The White House for Kids Web site shows Lynne Cheyney meeting with a group of students in Philadelphia on Costitution Day in 2003. This site has good information for the children and good ideas for teachers.

School House Rock's site provides catchy tunes that will help students learn more about our government.

The painting Scene at the Signing of the Constitution of the United States by Howard Chandler Christy is "conventionally acclaimed
the best single picture ever created of the American founding." This Teaching American History Web site allows students to drag their mouse over the pictures of the delegates. Their name and state represented is displayed. Click on the delegate's name and further biographical information is displayed. Can you identify South Carolina's delegates?

The Iris Aschenbrand site is a great site that was created by South Carolina and National Social Studies Teacher of the Year. She is a Fourth grade teacher.

We hope that you will refer back to these sites all year long!
