The Freeport School District is committed to working with students, parents/guardians and teachers to understand the issue of Internet Safety. To this end, an Internet Safety Curriculum has been developed which will be used in all Freeport Schools. The goal of this curriculum is to help students recognize personal safety issues when working on the Internet and protect themselves from online predators, scams and viruses. An important component of the Internet Safety Curriculum is to encourage students to communicate personal safety concerns to parents/guardians and teachers. For this reason, resources are provided in a separate page for parents/guardians and teachers to learn about Internet safety issues, threats posed by new technologies and strategies for working together to minimize risk. The Internet Safety Curriculum complements the Freeport School District Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) which outlines the acceptable use of technology in the Freeport Schools and is signed by parents/guardians and students at the beginning of the school year. Understanding how to safely work on the Internet and knowing the guidelines for acceptable use of technology will allow students to safely explore the richness of the Internet. The Freeport School District invites you to take a look at both the Internet Safety Curriculum and the resources provided on this important topic.
