Physical Education Content Standards: I. Students demonstrate skills and apply concepts to a variety of physical activities. II. Students participate regularly in physical activity to establish and maintain a health-enhancing level of physical fitness. III. Students demonstrate safe, responsible behavior in physical education settings. IV. Students recognize that physical activity provides opportunities for enjoyment, challenges, self-expression and social interaction. Class Description 6th Grade PE During their trimester of PE, students will understand the importance and benefits of physical fitness. They will learn the rules and basic skills needed to play low-level games, team sports, and will increase his/her fitness levels through warm-ups, cardio conditioning, and ply-o-metrics. Social skills such as attitude, cooperation, team work, and good sportsmanship are also developed. 7th Grade PE This is a required trimester class. Fitness development will be emphasized. Students will develop their skills and strategies through exercise, sports, and other activities. Curriculum focuses on fitness and team sports. 8th Grade PE This is a required trimester class. Fitness development will continue. This will be an introduction to individual/dual and racket sports. Activities will focus on mastery of skills, including rules and strategies for play.
