The Internet is a huge collection of computers around the world, all linked together and sharing information. A computer which is connected to the Internet can connected to millions of others computers, in many different parts of the world.
The World Wide Web is a part of the Internet. It is a collection of million of pages of information. To move around we use hyperlinks. These can be pieces of texts or pictures, usually coloured in blue and undelined.
If you click on a hiperlink, you will go to a different page. When you move your mouse over an hiperlink, it will change to the shaoe of a hand. An image map is a special kind of picture whose different parts act as hyperlinks to different pages. So just one picture can link you to lots of different pages on the Web.
The strong community base which has been developed on the Internet allows anybody from anywhere to share information, software and expert advice freely. Different services which you can access one connected to the Internet are, for example, keeping in touch and sending things by using electronic mail, talking on the Internet telephone, chatting or watching a video conference. You can also search into lots of databases, libraries or new groups around the world. In this way, you can have instant information updated permanently. (The teacher's magazine)
