SOCIAL STUDIES 8 ROGATE

MRS. BROWN

Welcome to the home page for SOCIAL STUDIES 8/ROGATE. In these pages, you will find links to supplemental materials as well as copies of, and sources for, many of your research projects.

Social Studies 8 is the second year of a two-year study of world history. It uses an historical approach to cultural differences, and explores changes in the Roman Empire including the Fall of the Roman Empire, the Growth of Islam, Sub-Saharan Africa, Asian Civilizations, Medieval Societies, and the Renaissance. The Curriculum and activites are aligned with the NJ Core Curriculum Content Standards through their emphasis on European history, global study, civics, economics, and the five themes of geography: location, place, human/environmental interaction, movement and region.

Students will be given the opportunity to broaden their awareness and understanding of the importance and influence of a variety of cultures, thus enabling students to build constructive attitudes toward diverse cultural, racial, ethnic, religious, and gender groups.

The ROGATE componant of this class will concentrate on building research skills. Students will be required to create a hypothesis, research primary and secondary sources to test it, and finally, to present their findings to other ROGATE students from across NJ.
