The setting for this historical fiction novel is Mississippi during the height of the Depression. It is the story an African American family's struggle to maintain their independence in the face of racism and discrimination. The Logans are a close knit family. The support and love they have for each other help them survive the abuses of the racist south. The Logan children grow and mature tremendously during the course of this book as they learn “their place” in southern society. |
